Stephen's Interview with Star Mag!!

Source: Star Magazine- 26th March Edition, Written by Louise Purser.

Stephen Mulhern: "David sends very, very rude texts to Simon!"
The presenter gives Star the Low-Down on Britain's Got More Talent.

Since 2007, Stephen Mulhern, 34, has been at the helm of BGT spin-off, Britain's Got More Talent. Like the main show's naughty little brother, it always seeks to have that extra bit of fun with the acts, as well as involve the hosts and judges in a bizarre range of backstage games.
And this year, BGT has seen its biggest shake up yet, with the return of Simon Cowell, while new faces David Walliams and former Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon will also join original judge Amanda Holden on the panel.
Stephen assures us that everything is going to be just as manic and exciting though, and with the judges as keen as ever to get their views across and a whole host of new and bonkers acts to get through - we just can't wait for the first show!

Hey, Stephen! It's all go on BGT this year - how does it feel compared to last year?
You can't really compare it to last year because it feels like a totally different show, but in a good way. Simon said he wanted to come back on board to turn the show on its head.

It sounds like he's succeeded! What did you think about the changes to the judging panel?
When I heard about David and Alesha coming on board I honestly didn't know what to think!

How's Alesha settled in?
What's very apparent is that she seemed very restricted in what she could say on Strictly Come Dancing, but on BGT she hit the ground running - She doesn't hold back! She's quite direct and very firm, but also very fair.

How about David, what's he really like?
I can't work him out! He's a very funny guy, with the most beautiful wife [Lara Stone, the model]. She's come along to a couple of auditions.

She seems very quiet...
Yes, the polar opposite to him! He's the cheekiest person I've ever seen. I asked the judges to predict who would win, for us to reveal on the last day, and as Simon was writing his down, David got right up next to him - almost back to back - so I said: "You always like getting close to Simon" and Simon said, "Yes, you're absolutely right, Stevie, it's very uncomfortable!"

Maybe Simon loves it really?
Simon must enjoy David's humour because he lets him get away with it. David also likes sending very, very rude texts.

Can you tell us what they say?
No! He sends them and then afterwards he says: "Sorry, that was meant for Simon!"

How is Amanda after the trauma she suffered after giving birth?
She seems fine. It's good to have her back.

Have you met her baby daughter, Hollie?
I have, it was lovely to meet her.

Alesha says that Simon teases her...
He does - a lot! Whenever she makes a comment about a girl act he'll say: "Ooh, you're very catty today." And wierdly, he always asks her, 'Who's your dresser? Who's your stylist? Who's dressed you today?' as if she's wearing something strange.

What else has he been up to?
Once, the warm-up guy, Ian Royce, was introducing the presenters and judges as we do every day. He introduced Ant and Dec, then me, and normally he would then introduce the judges. This time though, the floor manager called him off stage and said: "Keep filling, Roycey, Simon's gone for a bath!" He had to fill for another hour!

Do you think the judges genuinely get on?
They disagree a lot, but i don't think it's personal. David can be very strong if he thinks someone should go through - he doesn't mind speaking his mind. And Simon's the strongest out of all of them in terms of what he wants.

Which acts should we look out for this year?
There's a guy who sings a song with very repetitive lyrics and, trust me, he'll be massive! When you hear it, you can't stop singing it. There's also a dance troupe set up by Twist and Pulse [from 2010] who are brilliant too.

What kind of backstage shenanigans do you have planned for this series?
For David, we've got 'Where's Walliams?' where we hide him in the audience. For Alesha we have 'So, So Scandalous', where she gives us a scandalous piece of information about another celebrity, and with Ant and Dec it's 'Pub Olympics' and they're very competitive, as always!

How about Simon?
Simon's been amazing this year and even bought me a gift - some fudge. I don't know where he bought it from, but it tasted horrible!

New Mag interview

'It's amazing to have Amanda back'
Stephen Mulhern, presenter of Britain's Got More Talent, reveals how Amanda Holden is doing and what he thinks of baby Hollie!
This year has been a dramatic one for Britain's Got Talent- and it's not even on TV yet! In January, Simon Cowell, 52, announced his return to the judging panel with talk of sending the winner to perform in space. He then signed up funny man David Walliams, 40, and poached Strictly Come Dancing judge Alesha Dixon, 33, from the BBC because the show was "getting a bit smug".
No sooner had auditions got under way than heavily pregnant Amanda Holden was rushed to hospital where she almost died giving birt. Thankfully, both mum and baby Hollie, now eight weeks old, pulled through and a glowing Amanda, 41, was back at work in less than three weeks.
With all this drama in mind, we couldn't resist a catch-up with Stephen Mulhern. As the presenter of BGT's spin-off show, Britain's got More Talent, he is the ultimate insider with exclusive access to all the judges and the best acts.
Here Stephen, 34, reveals how Amanda is coping, how he feels about the Saturday night ratings war between BGT and BBC1 talent show The voice, and which judge has had the most surgery...

BGT is in its sixth year now. Is it getting a revamp?Simon wants to give the show a bit of a makeover. You're going to see more stuff like acts talking to each other backstage. And the cameras are so far away they forget they're on them.

What about the talent?I think they're going to be the strongest we've had! I don't understand why the really good talent haven't auditioned before. Where have they been hiding?!

Is a singer going to win?I think it will be a singing act, but I don't think it will be a solo singer.

Simon had a break from the show last year. Is he still Mr Nasty? He's still as direct as he's always been. He said to a guy playing an organ, "You're like sausage and ice cream - they just don't go together."

Who's Simon's favourite - Amanda or Alesha? He's so busy having a bath, he doesn't really fuss over anyone. But he asks Alesha every day, "Darling, who dresses you? Who's your stylist? Where's that from?" And he gives her a critique!

Does Amanda get straight on the phone to her stylist?I don't think there's any of that. Amanda's very happy in herself.

So there's no girl rivalry? They actually make a very good team! I asked Alesha who her favourite judge was and she said it was Amanda.

Aww. What about the rest of the panel - any fall outs? There's certainly no atmosphere. But if there's any sort of debate, it's between David and Simon. David is very strong-minded. When he likes an act, he really puts himself out there.

Have any of the acts made David cry?No, but one really got to him - two guys who were married. He got very emotional. It was an incredible moment.

Is it true that some of his comments were a bit risque and he was warned about keeping it family friendly?Yes! And I can tell you that David is on stage more than Ant and Dec! He can't help but get involved.

How is Amanda doing? She's on good form. It's amazing to have her back.

She got quite a bit of stick for going back to work so soon after giving birth...You know what? She got the all-clear and it's her choice. I don't really understand anyone that's got a view on somebody else's job. Just let people do what they think they should do.

She looks better than ever, doesn't she?Incredibly so.

Have you met baby Hollie?Yes, I have, and she is beautiful.

Does she take after her mum?Yeah. She's just lovely. Like any baby - she's just beautiful.

Speaking of celebrity mums, is it true that you and Holly Willoughby are good mates? It is. We did two and a half years together on Saturday mornings and now I'm on This Morning. It's lovely to work with her again.

She's hosting BBC1's The voice which is going head to head with BGT on Saturday nights. So will you still be friends in a few months?!(Laughs) You're the first person to ask that and the reality is that this is a massive gig for Holly. I think it's a shame they're going head to head, but that's how it is.

Have you had a bit of friendly banter about it - "my show's better than your show" sort of stuff? Not yet, but when it gets a bit closer, i'll definately start!

Will you feel bad for Holly if BGT wins the ratings war?No! I'm intrigued to see what The Voice is like.

It's very different to BGT. Is Simon desperate to beat the BBC?He hasn't mentioned it. I don't know who decides what goes head to head, but i know which one I'll be watching!

Are you in a relationship at the moment?I'm not. I'm all on my own!

Do you mind being single?Because things are so busy, it's not that bad. But when you're not busy, it's nice to be with someone.

Is BGMT a good way to meet people? What, like The Hoff?! No, that's one thing I would never do. No way... The auditionees?!

Don't they try to chat you up?Only once. We made a story of it. We got some strawberries and champagne and made a big deal. I can't remember her name, but she was a super-fan.

Did she try to slip you her phone number? This year, someone did write a letter saying they loved when I used to be on CITV and now I'm on This Morning, they record it. There was a number on the bottom. It was never dialled.

Do Ant and Dec get a lot of attention?I'm sure they get ten times more than I do!

Out of the hosts and the judges, who's had the most surgery?Oh God! Well, I can tell you I asked Simon if I were to have surgery what should I have done. And he gave me a big list. He's got a lot of knowledge!

What did he suggest? That I should have hair implants, get my teeth done and slightly get my nose done. He said, "Get all that sorted, then come back to me."

So you left that day feeling really good about yourself?Oh, yeah, on a real high!

Stephen's last day of panto!!

Stephen has now completed his run of Panto, playing Buttons at the Marlowe theatre in Canterbury!! The panto continues until the 22nd January, the part of Buttons will now be played by Paul Hendy, Director of this years panto!

This is so that Stephen can take part as the host of Britain's Got more Talent which will be in it's 6th series! Auditions start in Manchester on the 20th January, travelling up and down the country until Middle of Febuary in search of new talent.

What would have already been an emotional last day of panto for him was made more emotional after the death of Kent's Panto legend Dave Lee!! Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and loved ones of Dave. I didn't really know much about him until this years panto but heard so many lovely things about him and its very saddening to hear of the loss of a kind hearted man who did so much for the Kent community!!

Long live Dave's famous Ghost Bench scene at the Marlowe!! R.I.P.

The Butlins Story!!

Last night on ITV1 a programme celebrating the last 75 years of Butlins was on. As you may know, Stephen was a Butlins Redcoat before becoming a TV presenter.

It showed archive footage of Stephen at the age of 17 doing his magic in his redcoat uniform... he looked so cute! But for the show, Butlins redcoats and customers returned to tell their experiences of Butlins. It was a very interesting programme, and Stephen returned to tell us of his experience there too at Butlins Minehead where he worked for 2 years.

He looked gorgeous in his grey suit with green tie... you know the one ;) and spoke of how he loved being on stage and Butlins was where he learnt his craft of being able to entertain an audience, saying it was special to be apart of!!

So when you was younger did your parents ever take you to Butlins?? and did anyone ever see Stephen when he worked there?? Comment or tweet us (@team_mullers)

Cinderella Panto review 2011

After going to see the Cinderella panto at the Marlowe theatre in Canterbury, I can assure you that those still yet to see it are in for a real treat, and would seriously recommend it to anyone who can get there!!

The Cinderella story is put across beautifully by a very talented cast, including John Partridge (Christian from Eastenders) as Prince Charming who will amaze you with his singing, the very funny Ben Roddy as Dandini, Kate Quinnell makes a beautiful Cinderella, Sue Devaney with her rhyming couplets and her 'Prince Charming moments'. Michael J Batchelor and Ian Smith play the ugly sisters, Eugenie and Beatrice and of course Stephen Mulhern who makes the cutest Buttons ever!! ... And i think Fred Bear also deserves a special mention as he plays a very important role...

The highlights

- The dancers in the opening sequence, they're so talented.

- The Market stall scene between Buttons and Dandini will have you doubled up laughing.

- When Prince Charming first sings. Just Amazing!!

- Buttons in a onesie <3

- Cinderella's Horse and Carriage...

- The famous Ghost bench, with the famous 'It's behind you' shoutouts from the crowd and 'Oh well, we'll have to do it again then' and just all audience participation.

- When the ugly sisters try on Cinderella's Glass slipper, too funny!

- Stephens magic tricks and shoutouts!!

- The final song when everyone gets up to dance!!

Theres also lots of references to Eastenders and Britain's got talent in it too that will keep the older audience amused!! So all in all, the perfect panto for all of the family!!

Panto runs until the 22nd January 2012 and Tickets can be purchased HERE

Enjoy!! I Know you'll love it if you do go!!

well done stephen on the big quiz

Well we have just watched our lovely boss Mr Mulhern host The Big Quiz: Corrie v Emmerdale.
Stephen looked amazing in his new suit designed by @suitthecity and I'm sure you will agree they did a fab job.

On the corrie side there was Jack P Shepherd who plays David Platt, Jennie Mcalpine who plays Fiz, Pattie Clare who plays Mary and lastly Malcom Hebden who plays Norris.
On the Emmerdale side there was Danny Miller who plays Aaron, Mark Charnock who plays Marlon, Natalie Anderson who plays Alicia and lastly Meg Johnson who plays Pearl.
Some of the games that were played were Danny and Mark were blindfolded and had to touch the special guest who was Andy Devine who plays Shadrach. Jennie and Malcom had to put rovers return barmaid in the order of who was first and then had to place Samia Smith who plays Maria into when she was barmaid. Another game was between who would cry first between Jack and Natalie, during the game when the lights went down Stephen looked AMAZING. The rest of the games were they were shown clips. The winner was Corrie. The show was fab and Stephen was the perfect choice to host. Fingers crossed they do another big quiz soap special. A massive well done to the Corrie team the Emmerdale team the production and of course  the Host with most the beatuful Stephen for a fantastic show.
